Much of the art and literature of the Middle Ages was devoted to the worship of God or the explanation of God’s ways as the ultimate source of truth in religion and philosophy. During the Renaissance more emphasis was put on the individual and the idea that man is the measure of all things. And so this erais known for, among other things, the political amorality of Machiavelli, the heroic genius of Michelangelo, the personal essays written by Montaigne, and Luther’s rebellion against the authorities of the Church. During the Enlightenment, reason was celebrated in a campaign against religious superstition and was advocated as the means not just to truth, but to scientific advancement. As we proceed with our historical review and come to the modern age, the age in which we currently live, consider what characteristics define it. Do we still believe in foundational truths or do we believe in multiple, independent ways of looking at the world? Are there still antithetical values? How do we conceive of selfhood? Is the primary goal of art to represent the world accurately? Many of the changes that occurred in the latter part of the nineteenth century and the early part of the twentieth century were recognized, if not advanced by the philosophy of Nietzsche. In your first paper, analyze Nietzsche’s concept of perspectivism and present a strong, arguable claim in your thesis statement. Each paragraph is also a unit of argument and should begin with a claim and end with a conclusion just like the paper itself. The following questions may help you formulate a thesis on the subject, but you don’t need to answer all of them: How is perspectivism defined? What ideas or philosophies does it challenge or attempt to overthrow? What is its relationship to truth? What are the implications of its validation of cultural and personal interpretations of reality? How might it change art and literature, even society? Looking for the best essay writer?
